Hi! My name is Roy.
I'm a father, husband, Software Engineer, and car addict (usually in that order).
I have leased or purchased over 20 vehicles over the past 10 years. From budget brands to luxury, EVs to sports cars, I've dealt with my fair share of dealers and brokers.
I was never a fan of negotiations, and I was always frustrated by the lack of transparency and pressure tactics used by dealers.
The first price was never the best price. The best price was never clear. And the final price was always different.
And once the negotiation was over, there would always be a long wait for the finance person to become available.
I often spent most of the day at a dealership when it didn't feel like I needed to.
Then I met my first broker. And realized how different the experience could be.
The first price was the best price. The best price was clear. And the final price was the same.
The paperwork was emailed to me and it matched exactly what was promised.
The times when I picked up the car, I was in and out of the dealership within 20 minutes.
And then I got to experience sitting at home and having the car show up at my door. Signed the paperwork in the trunk within 15 minutes and the dealer employee was on their way.
On several occasions if the vehicle that was available was not at a dealership near me I would check with my local dealer if they could match the price.
On most if not every occasion they could not.
I quickly learned that not every dealership, or even employee at the same dealership, was able to operate within the same parameters.
Then came the consulting.
I spent a year using my free time to provide tech consulting to my broker. I did this by immersion, stepping into his system and interacting directly with clients and dealers.
I helped over 40 customers get a new car that year, and chatted with many more. I enjoyed talking cars, nerding out about cars with the car nerds, and helping the inexperienced navigate everything from options and features to understanding as much details as they wanted about leasing vs buying and what every number meant.
That's when I realized helping people through this process wasn't just something I could do. It was something I genuinely loved doing.
After the consulting arrangement ended I still had family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers asking me for help with their car buying process.
I helped because I enjoyed it, but always wished I could have a more concrete way to offer my help to anybody that wanted it, because I wholeheartedly believe that everyone deserves to have that same pleasant car buying experience I had.
That brings us to OC Auto Addict.
My opportunity to merge my passion for tech with my passion for cars.
Building a site I could be proud of.
A resource that's built around transparency.
A line dedicated to helping anyone that reaches out.
Whether I can help you get a car through one of my contacts, figure out what vehicle is right for you, or even just validate a deal you already have.
My goal is to create a friendly space where I can help as many people as I can have the best car buying experience possible.
